The Rediscovery Expedition of the Lady Elgin

Take your students along on the Milwaukee Public Museum’s field expedition to the Lady Elgin. Known as the Titanic of the Great Lakes this historic paddleboat steamer sank in Lake Michigan in 1860. The expedition begins the week of September 8th, 2008 with a live interactive videoconference where your students become the official storytellers/reporters of this exciting rediscovery expedition. They will see and hear from the divers first hand, and will be able to interact by asking questions. Then they will explore with the expedition team the artifacts, ROV data and maps to uncover what happened September 8th, 1860 discovering who was onboard and why, and learn how this disaster connects to their hometown!

We are recruiting students from Duluth MN! Anyone???

WHM Update & Tip of the Day:

99% tests completed!

KUSD equipment loaded in to the trusty Saab trunk for delivery and set-up!
(Nash & Bose today)

Schools added! We will be having connections the week of 5/29 as well!
All sessions are full though- SORRY!
WHM 2009 if you weren't able to swing it this year :-(

Tip of the day: Visual clues reinforce audio clues!

Large yellow, poster-sized signs with bold, black lettering work the best!

Don't laminate signs- camera+glare=not so good :-)

Happy WHM 2008 everyone and good luck with your connections!

WHM "Tip of the Day" :

Audio- Audio - Audio!
What? I can't hear you???

When planning and practicing your preso- be sure students are at a microphone, speak LOUDLY, s-l-o-w-l-y and clearly.

Avoid choral reading- it's too hard to understand.

Anyone not speaking should be silent.

Keep all papers and props quiet.

Have fun practicing!

WHM "Tip of the Day":

A question was posed recently regarding resources for researching your Wisconsin History Mystery-

Q: Can we use computers or should we just rely on print sources?

A: USE THEM ALL- however- I caution against instant Google :-)

If you immediately go to Google- you'll have 19 minutes of "free time".

All of that being said- I encourage use of technology, however, you can build on citing sources as well if answers are quick to come by :-)

Happy WHM everyone!
